The Position

As a Scientist at vermicon, you will work on challenging microbiological customer projects, develop methods into standardized services, and digitalize scientific workflows. You will analyze data, prepare reports, discuss results directly with our customers, and also carry out laboratory work. This gives you a thorough understanding of the systems and scientific questions involved and enables you to develop solutions that deliver tangible value. We combine our 

VIT® technologies with molecular biological methods, flow cytometry, sequencing data, and process information. Our applications range from wastewater and industrial water systems to beverages and quality control of probiotics. The key is to turn data into biologically sound conclusions that support customers in their decision-making.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Development of customer-specific investigation programs using appropriate methods, controls, and reference samples 
• Independent execution, evaluation, and documentation of microbiological customer projects, taking into account sample quality, matrix effects, and analytical limitations 
• Integration and biological interpretation of microbiological, molecular biological, and process-related data 
• Preparation of clear customer reports and discussion of results with customers  
• Systematic literature research, planning of development experiments, and validation and verification of new or modified methods 
• Transfer of suitable methods into standardized services, taking into account customer value, effort, and scalability 
• Technical contribution to the further development of our LIMS and digital interfaces in collaboration with our IT specialists 
• Preparation of method-specific SOPs, traceable documentation, and support of the company’s internal quality assurance standards (GMP, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 17025)

Requirements

• Master’s degree in biology with a focus on microbiology or molecular biology  
• Ideally, several years of practical experience in applied microbiological or molecular biological analysis and in working with complex samples or microbial communities 
• Theoretical and practical experience with qPCR / dPCR, including primer design 
• Experience in processing and analyzing 16S amplicon and ONT sequencing data as well as phylogenetic analyses 
• Ideally, experience with FISH, flow cytometry, sequencing, cultivation, and bioprocess analysis 
• Sound understanding of experimental design, controls, biological variation, and quantitative data interpretation 
• Understanding of structured data and reproducible analysis workflows, as well as a productive and critical approach to AI tools 
• Independent, structured, and results-oriented working style, willingness to learn, ability to work in a team, and an interest in customer challenges and commercial contexts 
• Willingness to combine hands-on laboratory work, scientific analysis, and customer communication 
• Very good German and English skills for customer reports and discussions  
• Experience with wastewater or process water, probiotics, Flow FISH, LIMS, ISO 17025, and GMP would be an advantage.
