For a sustainable future
Use of the VIT gene probe technology within the EU-project AquaFit4Use
The EC funded framework project AquaFit4Use – fit-for-use sustainable water use in chemical, paper, textile, and food industry – revolves around the question how to establish a more sustainable use of water in the main water consuming industries. Cooperating in a consortium of 40 prominent, top of the class partners, vermicon represents the only company specialised in microbiology. vermicon analyses microorganisms directly in process streams by application of its innovative technologies. The project is laid out for a 4 year period and constitutes an important milestone in sustainable resource management since its beginning in 2008. With a total budget of 14.8 million EUR it is one of the largest EC funded projects within its sector.
No more waste of drinking water
In consideration of drinking water shortages all over the world it is the project’s primary objective to establish the actual purity level necessary for production processes in each particular industry. Not every production step requires drinking water quality. However, in absence of awareness concerning the actual purity levels required, high quality water – i.e. drinking water – is often used unnecessarily. Sustainable use of water thus means using water “fit-for-use”, that is of the actually required quality, in spite of supporting the preventive use of drinking water. Moreover, the project focusses on the fact that industrial enterprises prefer closed water circuits in which they clean and recycle all water used independently. In this regard various cleaning and recycling procedures are tested and compared in order to eliminate unwanted chemical, physical or microbial parameters.
High benefit of vermicon's technologies and solutions
vermicon AG thereby continuously monitors the microbiological composition of each particular sample with its highly efficient, innovative technology portfolio. It analyses in great detail and with cultivation-independent technologies the microbial populations within different process streams. The VIT gene probe technology and VIT-profiling are thus used successfully and with great use for the project partners. The results are new and have promising and direct economic advantages.
Responsibility for our blue planet
Drinking water is one of the world’s most precious resource. By participating in projects such as AquaFit4Use vermicon wants to contribute to a more responsible understanding of its use. The cooperation of various research facilities, enterprises and industries – which test the results within their every day working routines – makes a powerful and promising team.
In such way, vermicon AG makes its worthwhile contribution to a more considerate use of our planet’s natural resources and strongly supports responsible living on planet earth.
