Drinking water

VIT® for a comprehensive control of drinking water.

Microbiological requirements

Microbiological requirements for drinking water are clearly defined. Organisms to be examined are:

  • Total viable count
  • E. coli
  • Coliform bacteria
  • Clostridium perfringens
  • Enterococci
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Legionella

Beyond that, there are additional microorganisms, which are significant for a comprehensive analysis of drinking water - depending on the requirements.

Dangerous Legionella

Legionella are among the most dangerous microorganisms in drinking water. They are a particular threat when inhaled in the shape of aerosoles. Via steam produced by showers or sprinkler systems, they make their way to the lung tissue, where they are able to cause the life-threatening legionnaire's disease. Legionnaire's disease is a form of pneumonia which is caused mostly, but not exclusively, by Legionella pneumophila.

Comprehensive analysis of drinking water with VIT®

The VIT® system provides a variety of analysis options for a multitude of microorganisms in drinking water. Microorganisms are detected faster than with conventional methods and with extremely high specificity.

In particular, ScanVIT® Legionella and ScanVIT® Pseudomonas stand out as products allowing for a fast and absolutely quatitative detection of exclusively viable cells. This means that all target organisms present in the sample are detected and quantified. Detection of viability is of great importance in this case, as only living cells pose a threat.
